THE PHONEY - Short Film

The Phoney is a dark comedy short film about an artist who lives in the shadow of his world-famous father.

Rupert, the son of world-renowned artist Luther Milo, longs to create art of his own but is shackled by the need to care for his ailing father.
Long-time friend and gallerist, Gab, suggests that the world has woken up to the fact it’s just two blobs on a canvas, and has simply become worthless. This prompts Rupert to consider all of his options – some less tasteful than others.

FESTIVAL CIRCUIT

Red Human’s dark comedy short film The Phoney is due to begin its festival run later in 2023, before online public viewing.

Cast and Crew

Actor Sam Hume headshot

Sam brings to life the troubled artist who just longs to paint the pictures that he enjoys!

Sam’s acting background is in theatre and on-screen, starting out as a Young Associate with The New Wolsey Theatre and continuing to Soho Theatre Writers’ Lab, before finally making the jump to films and commercials.

Actor Mark Wingett headshot

Who better to play a world-renowned artist than Mark?!

Mark is well recognised for his role as DC Carver in long-running police drama The Bill, but has numerous other credits to his name, from Snow White and the Huntsmen, to the cult classic Quadrophenia.

Coral lifts the role of snooty gallerist right off the page with a pin sharp performance.

Coral is a multi-talented comedic performer, clown and comedian. With training from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and the prestigeous Philipe Gaulier Clown School in Paris, it’s a no-brainer to get her playing this quirky character.

Jordan’s incredibly unique style lends itself so well to the world of the Milo art empire!

When transitioning into film, Jordan studied an MA in Directing Fiction at the National Film and Television school, where her first short film was nominated for Best UK Short at Raindance Film Festival.

"I love the dark comedy & satirical tone to this film and loved adding it to my portfolio of work exploring insulated characters who drive themselves to do unexpected things."

Estefania has a wonderful eye for composing shots, and she blessed The Phoney with many of them.

Estef graduated NFTS with a masters in cinematography where she worked closely with Jordan on multiple collaborations. She has been a member of Apertura DOP since 2019 and was nominated for BSC Best Cinematography.
